Chin and cheek implants can improve the overall facial profile by enhancing facial harmony. For the chin, an implant can create more protrusion and improve the relationship of the chin and nose on the profile view. For the cheeks, augmentation can improve the facial skeleton which results in a more elegant and attractive appearance. By augmenting the facial skeleton, better definition is achieved as the foundation for the soft tissues is improved.
Chin implants are inserted through a small incision into a pocket which allows the implant to sit directly on the bone. The implant is secured with sutures and the skin is closed with fine sutures. Cheek implants are placed through incisions inside the upper lip and the implants are held in a pocket on the cheekbone with a suture placed through the skin. The intraoral incisions are closed with dissolvable suture.
