Facial rejuvenation can start with your skin. Even in patients considering cosmetic surgery, priming the skin only enhances the results. Because sun exposure has a significant impact on facial aging, medical skin care is aimed at improving the sequela of sun exposure, including hyperpigmentation, fine lines and textural changes. Pharmaceuticals such as alpha hydroxyacid (AHA) and poly hydroxyacid (PHA), tretinoin and hydroquinone are compounded in a variety of creams, lotions and gels which help treat fine lines, age spots, and acne. We carry the Obagi and the Neostrata lines.
A series of light chemical peels or a medium depth peel may improve skin quality. There are a wide range of chemical peels available to improve the surface of the skin. Glycolic peels are superficial peels which help eliminate fine lines by consistently removing the top layer of skin. The strength of the peel can be increased for deeper penetration. For a deeper peel, TCA (trichloroacetic acid) in different strengths, functions to coagulate the proteins on the surface of the skin. As the skin regenerates and heals, the lines of the face are noticeably reduced. For higher strength TCA peels, a patient may require 3-5 days for recovery.
