The carbon dioxide laser is an ablative laser which uses light energy to remove facial wrinkles, especially around the eyes and mouth. Laser resurfacing addresses age spots, hyperpigmentation, superficial skin cancer and sundamage, some birthmarks and scars and acne scarring. Deep furrows on the forehead and deep set wrinkles cannot be erased by laser and sagging eyes, jowls and neck are not corrected by laser either. However, after the healing process, the skin is more youthful in appearance with improvement continuing to occur for months after treatment.
